Obituary for Charles "Charlie" McCracken

Charles Allen McCracken, 73, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, after a short battle with a brain tumor. Charlie was born on November 3rd, 1949 in Bradford, PA to the late Carl McCracken and Nellie Johnston McCracken.

After Charlie graduated from Bradford High School in 1967, he went on to study Engineering at Gannon University in Erie, PA. Charlie began working in the Apprentice Course at General Electric directly after graduating high school, and went on to become an Engineer at General Electric, working there for over 42 years. During his time at GE, he was able to travel the world, making many good friends from all over the world that he continued to stay in touch with even after retiring.

Charlie met the love of his life, Marsha, in 1965, at Bradford High School. Charlie and Marsha were married for over 53 years. Their love story was one of a kind. Charlie loved spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoyed all kinds of nature including fishing and taking pictures with his trail cameras. He loved taking walks with his dogs, working with his hands and building things, and was an avid bowler most of his life.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Ault, and a daughter, Janet, who died at birth.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marsha, his children, Marie Aldridge and her husband Robert of Lake City, PA, Cheryl Byerley of Union City, PA and Karen McCracken and her partner Sharlene Hardy of Concord, NH. Charlie is also survived by his brother Carl (Butch) McCracken and his wife Christine and one grandson, Luke Byerley, whom he adored.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 4th at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, Erie, 16504 from 3-5 PM with a brief memorial service to follow .
