Obituary for Mary Alice Breter (Hertner)
Mary A. Breter, 92, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Erie on June 8, 1930, a daughter of the late Lena and Arthur Hertner. She married Milton Henry Breter on November 20, 1948.
Mary graduated from Academy High School in 1948 before completing Post Secondary education at Behrend College. Upon graduation she worked with her parents at Trost and Steinfurth Florist and then went on to work at Erie Printing, The Boston Store and Erie Direct Mail Service before getting into the medical field. Mary worked for Hamot in Medical Education and as a Respiratory Therapy Technician. From there she moved to Millcreek Community Hospital working as a Pharmacy Technician, in Medical Education and as an Administrative Assistant for Dr. John Ferretti. Mary retired at age 62 in 1992.
Mary’s “hobby” was helping other people, an activity for which she had a particular knack. Mary and Milt enjoyed vacationing with their dear friends Miriam and Barry Griffith making over 16 trips to Florida together.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Zimmer and her brother, Robert Hertner.
She is survived by her sons, Keith Breter and James (Karen) Breter, both of Erie; her grandchildren, Craig (Sharon) Breter of Georgia, Kevin (Katie) Breter of Erie, and Mark (Jackie) Breter of Pittsburgh, her great-grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Zachary, and Ali; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the Russell C. Schmidt and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, Pa 16504 on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of services there at 12 PM. Burial will follow in Erie Cemetery.
