Obituary for Eleanor J. Yonko (Benecki)
Eleanor J. Benecki Yonko, 91, of Erie, passed away peacefully Sunday January 8, 2023. She was born in Erie on June 27, 1931 a daughter of the late John and Dorothy Zelinski Benecki.
Eleanor graduated from Academy High School and worked as a switchboard operator and supervisor for GTE/Verizon for 43 years until her retirement. She was a devout member of St. Luke Catholic Church and enjoyed Polish family traditions, golf, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond J. Benecki along with his first wife, Leona, and his second wife, Claire; and her sister, Sr. Mary Anita Benecki, C.S.S.F.
Survivors include her son, Christopher Yonko and his wife, Brenda, of Erie; one niece, Theresa Zaleski (Ted) of Brielle, NJ; one nephew, Ray Benecki (Joanne) of Fairfax, VA; and many great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial were private. Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
