Obituary for Walter G. Ore

Walter G. Ore, age 96, of Erie passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie, on August 6, 1926, a son of the late Nicholas and Luella Drake Ore.
Walter graduated from Academy High School in 1944 and went on to serve in the United States Army during WWII. After returning from the service, he went to photography school in New York City. Walter was a professional photographer for over 30 years at John Lorei Studios. He was a founding member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of Erie Family Campers and loved camping at Family Affair Campground. Walter enjoyed playing BINGO and wintered in Spring Hill, Florida.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Esther Williams Ore; his son-in-law, Lavern Murphy; his grandchildren, Jessica Trabert, infant Joseph Trabert, and infant Pamela Ore; his sister, Agnes Starvaggi; and his brother, Vincent Ore.
Survivors include his three daughters, Kathy Ore, Jeanne O’Leary (David), and Beverly Russell (James), all of Erie; his three sons, Robert Ore (Patty), of Erie, Thomas Ore (Marie), of Cedar Falls, IA, and Bill Ore (Jane), of Marietta, PA; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; his sister, Joanne Morrison; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Larry Snyder.
Walter’s family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Nightingale Nursing and Rehab Center for the love and care they gave Walter.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service there at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery.
