Obituary for Wendy Jean Smith (Nesselhauf)

Wendy Jean Nesselhauf Smith, 52, of Harborcreek, passed away on Sunday November 13, 2022 at UPMC Hamot following an unexpected battle with stage four cancer.

Wendy was born in Erie on January 19, 1970 a daughter of Rebecca McCurdy Herman and the late David D. Nesselhauf. Wendy was a caregiver, bartender, and hair stylist. She loved cooking, baking, crafts, saving animals, antiques, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved Charlie Hunman and Brett Favre.

Wendy was caring, free-spirited, was a fighter, and it was her way or the highway. She was more than a good woman and a good person, she was a beautiful soul who carried light in her smile and love wherever she went. She will be missed by many but never forgotten.

In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jasper, and her grandparents.

In addition to her mother, survivors include her beloved husband of 14 years, Paul Leon Smith; her four children, Mark Allen Cronauer, Kayla Nicole Cronauer, Destiny Lynn Wilson, and Hannah Rose Wilson; her “fur” kids, Jaxson and Kalua; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Candy Wright (Jeff Northrop) and Heather Peterman (Chris); one brother, David Nesselhauf; her stepmother, Loretta Nesselhauf; her stepfather, Dave Herman; two step-brothers, Scott Herman (Robin) and Daryl Herman (Jen); and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 4 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
