Obituary for Shirley Buzanowski (Strohmeyer)

Shirley A. Strohmeyer Buzanowski, 76, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 2, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Erie on January 12, 1946 a daughter of the late Robert and Margaret Carter Strohmeyer.

Shirley graduated from St. Benedict Academy and went to graduate from the Erie School of Practical Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Hamot Medical Center and Millcreek Community Hospital. She went on to work for the Millcreek School District and St. George Catholic School. She attended Catholic Masses in the Erie Diocese and was a member of the St. Mark Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafting, shopping, estate and garage sales, and traveling. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her cats.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Dr. Joseph R. Buzanowski, on August 2, 2007; one sister, Margaret Fletcher; her niece, Brittany Fletcher; her nephew, Christopher Fogle; her best friend, Sam Steff; and her special friend, Tom Matusiak.

Survivors include two sons, Timothy Buzanowski (Genia) of Hollister, CA, Robert Buzanowski (Leigh Ann) of Erie; one daughter, Paula Hengle (Joe) of Edinboro; eight grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Danielle, Lilly, Joe, Cece, Abby, and Lucas; one sister, Barbara Strohmeyer, of Erie; her sister in law, Audrey Dubowski (Stan) of Erie; her brother in law, Edwin Fletcher, of Corry; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. are invited to a prayer service there on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
