Obituary for Jeanne Lorraine Brown (Robinson)

Jeanne “Lorraine” Robinson Brown, age 95, of Erie, passed away Monday, June 13, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April Fool's Day 1927 in Mount Pleasant, PA, a daughter of the late Raymond E. and Virginia A. Banks Robinson.

Lorraine grew up in Uniontown residing with her mother and sister. At sixteen Lorraine moved to Erie, where she attended Strong Vincent High School. In 1945, Lorraine married Dunbar Brown and they were blessed with three children Cynthia, Rodney and Rhonda. During the Civil Rights struggle, she broke ground as one of only two black people employed at Sear's Department Store and the Boston Department Store. Although she views her life's greatest work as Nurse's Assistant at the VA Hospital in Erie, where she prided herself on giving top notch care for 25 years.

In retirement, Lorraine has spent time living in North Carolina and traveling solo to LA for visits with her family. Lorraine has three children, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Lorraine has been a member of the St. James AME Congregation for the past 77 years, over this time she has served as a volunteer, a choir member and an usher-attending service is the delight of her week. Today, Lorraine enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren, talking on the phone with her eldest daughter and being the keeper and storyteller of family memories.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited the following morning to Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery for a graveside funeral service at 10:00 a.m. A time of sharing memories will follow at St. James AME Church.
