Obituary for Judith Bitters (Gluvna)

Judith Ann (Gluvna) Bitters passed away at her home on Sunday, April 24th, 2022 after a long battle with cancer, and now rests in God’s arms. She was born on April 15th, 1958 to the late Cyril & Anna (Sander) Gluvna.

Judy was raised and educated in the Corry area. She received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s in Criminal Justice from Mercyhurst College. She was employed by the County of Erie for 30 years as a probation officer and supervisor.

She enjoyed sports and participated in various softball, bowling, and golf leagues. She was a member of the Erie Ski and Erie Runner’s Clubs. Her greatest accomplishment was completing the NYC Half Marathon with her daughter in 2012. Judy was also involved with her children’s sports as a softball coach and active member of the sport’s boosters programs. She enjoyed theater, singing karaoke, and being at the horse track. Her personality was larger than life, and she lived each day to its fullest.

Judy was a member of St. Boniface Church where she served as a Parish Council member, lector, Faith Formation teacher, and Heavenly Duster.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents and many uncles, aunts, and other family members.

Survivors include: her husband Edward; daughter Carly; son Niklas (Wattsburg, PA); step-daughter Kathryn & Ron Heino and grandchildren, Justin & Mariah Heino (Maricopa, AZ); her siblings: Marie & David Mitchell (Corry, PA), Michael & Susan Gluvna (Columbus, PA), Patricia “Penny” & Rod Murphy (Guthrie, OK), Agnes “Gidgit” & Douglas Smith (Clymer, NY); as well as three uncles: Pete Sander (Corry, PA), John & Ilse Sander (La Porte, TX), Donald & Theresa Gluvna (Albuquerque, NM); three aunts: Faye Sander (Erie, PA), Amelia Gluvna (Kittanning, PA) and Doby Sander (Broken Arrow, OK); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous close friends.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday at St. Boniface Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11 a.m. Burial will take place in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Corry at 1:30 p.m.
