Obituary for Donald R. Hewett

Donald R. Hewett, 87, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 17, 2022 at the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home. He was born in Erie on October 31, 1934 a son of the late Roy and Florence Rieger Hewett.

Don graduated from Strong Vincent High School and served in the United States Army. He owned Hewett Cleaning Services for many years. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and belonged to Koinonia of Erie County. Don enjoyed sports, especially golfing, bowling, basketball and softball. He was a fan of Cleveland sports teams, especially his beloved Indians and Browns, and Gannon University basketball, which he listened to on the radio when he couldn’t be there in person. In his later years he became an avid bingo player, playing as much as 5 times a week at the home.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Janke Hewett, and his former wife, Dr. Jayne Olsen Hewett.

Survivors include two sons, David Hewett and his wife, Elaine, and Dr. Charles "Chuck" Hewett; three stepdaughters, Colleen Noonan, Laurie Porter, and Katie Noonan; one stepson, Todd Turben; four grandchildren, Madison, Harrison, Mackenzie, and Hunter and their mother Holly; 14 step-grandchildren; and 21 step-great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday at 10 a.m.. Burial will be private in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the PA Soldiers and Sailors Home, 560 E 3rd St, Erie, PA 16507.
