Obituary for Jerome R. "Jerry" Englert

Jerome "Jerry" Raymond Englert, 79, of Erie, passed away peacefully at Westlake Woods surrounded by his loving family on Friday April 15, 2022. He was born in Erie on November 20, 1942 a son of the late Leonard and Otylia Nagorski Englert.

Jerry graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1960 and graduated from Edinboro State College in 1964. He earned his Master's Degree in Elementary Education in 1966 and his Administrative Certification from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1970. He began his career teaching at Glenwood Elementary from 1964-1973 and became principal at Edinboro Elementary from 1973-1988. He was principal at McKean Elementary from 1988-1999 and was presented with the Legacy Award from the General McLane School Board in 2014.

Jerry was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he served as lector for 25 years and directed and taught the CCD program for seven years. He coached Little League baseball for 15 years and served as commissioner for two years. He enjoyed boating, fishing, camping, hunting, reading, and golf.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marlene Shaw Englert.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Haaf Englert; his three children, Dan Englert of Waterford, Kim Popowski and her husband, Kevin, of Erie and Jeff Englert and his wife, Lisa, of Erie; two grandchildren, Jordan and Jenna; his brother, Paul Englert and his wife, Brigitte; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at All Saints Catholic Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the Funeral Mass there at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to All Saints Catholic Church, 11264 PA-97, Waterford, PA 16441.
