Obituary for Richard T. Helsley
Richard T. Helsley, 86, of Greene Township, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Erie on July 23, 1935, a son of the late Frank G. and Agatha LaQue Helsley.
Dick graduated from Cathedral Prep and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a welder for Erie Sand and Steamship. Dick was a member of St. Boniface Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He loved his God, family, and country. Dick had a big heart and always made himself available to others. He was very resourceful and was able to create something out of nothing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joan Jankowski Helsley; his daughter, Jennifer Ann Helsley; his son, Andy Helsley; and his brother Edward Helsley.
Survivors include his daughter Joan (Phil) Vallimont of Greene Twp.; his son, Michael Helsley of Divide, C.O.; four grandchildren, Michael and Linda Helsley, Philip Vallimont Jr. (Vicki Murray), and Michael Vallimont (Melissa); his sisters, Eleanor Beer and Marilyn Hale; his brothers, David, Clifford, and Joseph Helsley; his great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. on Sunday from 5 pm to 8 pm. and the following morning at St. Boniface Church from 10 a.m. until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
