Obituary for Darrel R. Jones

On Friday March 25th, 2022 our father Darrel Rodney Jones
had his prayers answered, preceding a long battle with Parkinson’s
Disease and multiple strokes. He had enough and asked to be put in
Hospice care, taken off medications, to be kept out of pain, and
just sleep. He died peacefully with no pain, and joined his loved ones in heaven.

Darrel was born in Erie PA January 19th, 1946 where he lived most of his life.
He was the founder and President of Dee’s Painting Company until he retired
to Barefoot Bay Sebastian, Florida, ultimately residing in assisted living in Satellite
Beach, Florida, where he spent the remainder of his life.
Darrel enjoyed being near the water, listening to good music, and spending time with
his friends. He had a camper at Sara’s Campground in Erie, PA surrounded by longtime friends,
which were some of the best days of his life. He spoke of them often.

Darrel was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Mable Jones, as well his brothers
Denny Jones and Larry Jones, and his daughter-in-law Erica Jones.

He is survived by his children, Kimberly Vice & her husband Tom; Kathi Slaney and her husband Ken; and his son Kevin
Jones. Darrel was so proud of his grandchildren, and loved them very much, Dr. Shannon Vice,
Hailey Vice, Brent Jones & Brandon Jones. Darrel was also survived by his sister Donna Schaffel of
Texas, and brother Dwayne Jones of Erie PA, and several nieces & nephews.

Darrel’s wish was to be laid to rest in Erie, PA. There with be a small service at Wintergreen Gorge
Cemetery (section 7) on Sunday April 24th at 12:00 noon, preceding a Celebration of Life gathering in his honor.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our sister Kim & her husband Tom, for going above and
beyond to make the last years of our dad’s life be the best they could possibly be, ensuring he had
premier care & quality of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations in our father’s name to “Make A Wish” a charity near and dear to our dad
and family, would make him proud.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
