Obituary for Charles F. Williams

Major Charles F. Williams, 81, of Macedonia, Ohio and formerly of Erie, was promoted to glory on Wednesday December 22, 2021 at SouthPointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. He was born in Cincinnati, OH on July 23, 1940 a son of the late Charles and Dorothy Simons Williams.

Charles served in the United States Marine Corps. He attended the Salvation Army School for Officer Training and went on to earn his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice at the Salvation Army International Headquarters in London, England. He was an ordained minister with the Salvation Army and directed the Harbor Light Center in Boston. He ministered with corrections facilities in Cleveland and Canada and was also director of Emergency Disaster Services with the Salvation Army in Boston.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Major Maria Olivia "Dee Dee" Edeen Williams.

Survivors include his son, Matthew C. "Bones" Williams of Erie; his daughter, Kristi Ruth East and her husband, Darryl, of Twinsburg, OH; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Lt. Colonel Gladys DeMichael and her husband, Joseph, of Clearwater, FL and Clair Richmyer of Limo, OH; his sister in law, Lt. Colonel Ruth Avery and her husband, Lt. Colonel Al Avery of Lancaster, PA; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., including a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Cleveland, Ohio. Burial will be announced at a later date and will take place next to his late wife. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all visitors will be asked to wear a mask.
