Obituary for Ronald L. "Ron" Phelps

Ronald “Ron” L. Phelps, age 73, of Erie, passed away Friday, October, 15, 2021 at UPMC Presbyterian after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was born in Erie, on September 13, 1948, a son of the late Gerald L. and Shirley I. Cochran Phelps.

Ron attended McDowell High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a truck driver for various local trucking companies for 50 years. As a Harley Davidson enthusiast, after Ron’s retirement his greatest pleasure was organizing “retiree rides” with his buddies. In the late 70's Ron became the Northeastern U.S. Arm Wrestling Champion. Ron was a member of the American Legion, A.B.A.T.E., Moose, Moniuszko, and Siebenbuerger Clubs.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Phelps and his brother Gerald Phelps.
Survivors include his wife, Lorine Boboshko; his son, Ronald L. Phelps, Jr. (Anna Marie); granddaughters, Samantha, Brandi, and Cheyann Phelps; six sisters, Carin Dorn (Ron), Sandra Phelps, Joyce Phelps, Marilyn Breckley (Dennis), Betty Rhines, and Robin Lear (Brian); five brothers, John Phelps (Eileen), David Phelps, Kevin Phelps, Jeffery Phelps (Laong), and Robert Phelps; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Victor and Judy Boboshko; brother-in-law Paul Boboshko, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made to any children’s charity of one’s choice.
