Obituary for Kathleen M. Nowak (Alberstadt)

Kathleen M. Alberstadt Nowak, 94, a resident of St. Mary's Home East, passed away on Tuesday May 25, 2021. She was born in Erie on October 19, 1926 the youngest child of the late George and Martha Huster Alberstadt.

Kathleen graduated from St. John the Baptist Catholic School in 1940, attended St. Benedict Academy and graduated from Academy in 1944. She graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1947 and worked at St. Vincent Health Center, Mercy Hospital in Altoona for four years and Erie Homes for Children and Adults. She was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church where she belonged to the Heavenly Dusters, the Ladies Guild, and volunteered at the food bank, fish fries, and other fundraisers. She also belonged to the St. Mark's Seminary Auxiliary.

Kathleen was a devoted mother, faithful wife, and a caring mother. She was a Cursillista and a member of the House of Prayer Community. She enjoyed spending time with her neighborhood circle of friends card club, her retired nurse's club, knitting, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and gardening.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl S. Nowak; five brothers, George Jr, Richard, Robert, Dr. Norbert, and John Alberstadt; and four sisters, Dolores, Marie, and Rita Alberstadt, and Marjorie Kindrick.

Survivors include her six children, Fr. Mark A. Nowak of Cambridge Springs, Martha Adamczyk (Gerard) of Erie, Dennis C. Nowak of Erie, Denise Allen (Nelson) of Forest Hill, MD, Craig S. Nowak of Baltimore, MD, and Scott P. Nowak (Vicki) of Erie; six grandchildren, Christopher Allen (Kate), Michael Adamczyk, Samantha Allen, Kelsie Fratus, Kirsten Wellman, and Linden Hoover; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 11 a.m.. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
