Obituary for James Edward May

J. Edward May, 95, of Wattsburg, passed away on Saturday May 15, 2021 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. He was born in Venango Township on September 16, 1925 a son of the late Luther A. May and Frances E. Thompson Barney May.

Ed graduated from Wattsburg High School in 1943 and went on to work at GE for two years and then as a milk hauler for 16 years. He worked as a dairy farmer on his own farm for many years. He was a member of the Erie County Association of Township Officials, the Erie County Agriculture Stabilization Committee for 20 years, and was a Director of the Erie Crawford Co-Op. He served as Director and Treasurer of the Wattsburg Fair for two years and was a Venango Township Supervisor for 24 years. Edward enjoyed traveling, having visited every state except Hawaii and enjoyed traveling to Australia and Ireland. He made many dear friends and enjoyed reading and country music concerts.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Wargo May; his sister, Iola May; his half-sister, Doris T. Barney; and his half-brother, Donald H. Barney.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Ann Ebert (Richard) and Sheryl May (Gary Fabian), all of Erie; three sons, Jim May (Cindy) of Lexington, SC, Doug May (Linda) of Picayune, MS, and Brad May (Laurie) of Marietta, GA; eight grandchildren, Charlie Ebert, Katie Kyprianou (Marcus), Bryce May, Jon May (Bianca Richier), Delaney Herrin (Adam), Amber May, Preston May, and Laurel May; three great grandchildren, Ella and Leon Kyprianou and Letti May Herrin; his special friend, Geraldine Blass of Waterford; four cousins, Leona Smith, and Jim, Roger, and Jack Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday at 10 a.m.. Burial will follow in Wales Cemetery.
