Obituary for Donald E. Richards
Donald E. Richards, 81, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 21, 2021 at LECOM at Presque Isle. He was born in Brookville, PA on July 22, 1939 a son of the late Elwood and Mina McNaughton Richards.
Don graduated from Brookville High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He worked at Humphrey's Charcoal and as a coal miner and went on to work at GE. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling, golfing, woodworking, fishing, and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Himes Richards; one son, Douglas Richards and his wife, Mary, of Erie; one daughter, Lynette Simnett and her husband, James, of S. Attleboro, MA; seven granchildren, Kathryn and Brady Simnett, Robert (Becky) Scalise, Patricia (Todd) Meeuwes, Angela (Shaun) McBride, Antonette Royer (Josh August), and Dennis (Lisa) Lanagan; many great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Evans and her husband, Don, of Vero Beach, Florida and Sandy Carrier and her husband, Tom, of Brookville; one brother, Robert Richards of Brookville; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services there on Friday at 10 a.m.. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3952 Pine Ave, Erie, PA 16504.
