Obituary for Richard G. Carey

Richard G. Carey, 88, of Erie, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie, on April 6, 1932, a son of the late John J. and Marion Bard Carey.

Dick graduated from Academy High School in 1952. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Dick was a very proud veteran and was honored to service his county. He worked for LORD Corporation for 35 years, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Dick was a longtime member of Holy Rosary Church. He was an avid New York Yankee’s baseball fan, and enjoyed gardening and wood working. He loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Emmett and James Carey.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Elaine P. Kosares Carey; his two daughters, Norma Carey, and Brenda Zaunegger and her husband, Michael, both of Erie; his two twin grandsons, Tony and Andy Zaunegger; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, PA 16504.
