Obituary for John Robert Washek
John R. Washek, 76, of Erie, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday February 15, 2021. He was born in Erie on August 1, 1944 a son of the late Elmer and Catherine Geiger Washek.
John graduated from Cathedral Prep and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in accounting and his MBA from Gannon University. He worked at Techno Corporation for 27 years and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He enjoyed spending time with his lifelong friend James Graham. If it was a warm sunny day they could be found on the golf course. In the winter, he enjoyed playing pool and rooting tirelessly for the Cleveland Browns.
Survivors include his wife of over 49 years, Linda Stevens Washek; one daughter, Nicolette Read and her husband, Adam, of Mercer County; two grandchildren, Todd and Trent; three sisters, Marie Bissell and her husband, Dave, of Lake City, Susan Berry and her husband, James, of Rochester, NY, and Dorothy Sokolowski and her husband, Rick, of Erie; two brothers, Richard Washek and his wife, Nancy, of Fairview and Joseph Washek of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic funeral services and burial were private for the family.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
The family would like to thank the VNA Hospice staff and nurses for their love and compassion shown to John.
