Obituary for Florence J. Saraceno

It is with great sadness among family and friends that Florence J. Saraceno, age 99, of Erie, peacefully passed away Dec. 25 at Pleasant Ridge Manor in Girard, Pa., after complications due to Covid-19.

She was born Philomena Joan Adiutori in Erie on June 1, 1921 to the late Augustine Adiutori and Anna (Vaccarello), the first of three children (Gloria, Doris).

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Saraceno, in 1988, and sister Gloria Stevens in 2004.

She is survived by sons Gary Saraceno and Jon Saraceno (Shawn); sister Doris Krah; grandchildren Julie Ritzel, Mark Saraceno (Ilona), Eric Saraceno (Julie) and Sebastian Saraceno; great-grandchildren Emily Ritzel, Madison Saraceno, Leah Saraceno and Owen Saraceno; nephew Mark Stevens (Laurie); and goddaughter Emily Sertz (Ron).

She was a proud graduate of Villa Maria Academy in 1940. She later worked for General Electric. Florence loved cooking her favorite Italian dishes, baking and playing cards with friends. For years, she worked as an after-school nanny and was beloved by children and parents.

As a widow, Florence lived in her home in Millcreek for many years before moving to the Villa Maria Apartments. She loved her independence, the neighborhood and her new friends. She relocated to Sarah Reed Senior Living before spending her last years at Pleasant Ridge Manor in Girard. The family wishes to thank her many caregivers for their loving attention and compassion, with special gratitude to Mary Lou and Bruce Noyer and Mary Bartko.

Funeral services are private prior to burial at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
