Obituary for Robert A. Meister

Robert A. Meister, 77, of Summit Twp., passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 15, 2020 at UPMC Hamot under the compassionate care of doctors and nurses due to various health issues. He was born in Erie on January 5, 1943 a son of the late Robert F. Meister and Rose M. DeDionisio Meister Nims.

Robert graduated from Cathedral Prep and Gannon University. He proudly served in the United States Army and the United States Army Reserves for over 20 years, earning the rank of Colonel. He worked at GE for over 30 years. His time at GE included trips all over the world. He enjoyed sharing his travel stories and his hearty laugh and excitement made one feel part of his adventures. He was an amateur photographer who had pictures published in the first edition of the Erie Memories photography book. His pictures showcased his love of tall ships and his annual summer trips to Waldameer with his grandchildren. He also loved grilling, reading, playing card games, visiting Peek'n Peak in the fall and watching boats at the South Pier. His enthusiasm for his hobbies will be greatly missed. He ended his work career having helped launch Railpower. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, the Erie Club, and the Siebenbuerger Club. He enjoyed sports, especially the Cleveland Browns and Indians and enjoyed golfing, having achieved four holes-in-one during his lifetime.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Brian Meister; his stepfather, Donald Nims; his stepsister, Patricia Kaltenbaugh; and his brother in law, Jack Myers.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Sally Myers Meister; two sons, Christopher Meister and his wife, Lisa, of Columbus, OH and Robert P. Meister and his wife, Stephanie, of Richmond, VA; two grandchildren, Lucas and Nora Meister; one stepsister, Barbara Allegroe and her husband, Robert, of Apopka, FL; his sister in law, Betty Myers, of Rochester, NY; and many cousins.

Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum will be private for the family.
