Obituary for William E. Miller

William E.  Miller
William E. Miller, 90, of Erie, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday October 7, 2018. A lifelong resident of Erie, he was born April 3, 1928, a son of the late Edward F. and Genevieve Hassett Miller.

William was a 1947 graduate of Cathedral Prep and went on to serve in the United States Army. He worked for 13 years at each of the following - Copes-Vulcan, Parade Lumber, and the United States Post Office, before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church where he served on the Men's Council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking and made many hand-crafted items for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling, was a Gannon basketball season ticket holder for over 20 years, and was an avid sports fan, especially Notre Dame and Penn State. He was not only a gentleman, but was a sweet, humble, and kind man with a beautiful smile. He loved his family deeply and is now joyfully reunited with his loving wife.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 59 years, Norene Arduini Miller, and two sisters, Bettie Heintz and Rita Schultz.

Survivors include two sons, Gary E. Miller and his wife, Dena Tavinello-Miller, of Erie and Ron Miller and his wife, Jan, of Greensburg, PA; two daughters, Sally Donikowski and her husband, Chet, of Harborcreek and Michele Hubert and her husband, Jim, of Erie; seven grandchildren, Chad and Lauryn Donikowski, Lexie, Katie, and Andrew Miller, Kaleigh (Hubert) Vinesky and her husband, Alex, and Meaghan Hubert; his brother-in-law, Larry Arduini and his wife, Donna, of Lutz, FL; his sister-in-law, Gloria Szymanowski, of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
