Steve and Sandy Rekitt of Erie, Pa passed away suddenly on Thursday 07/19/2018 as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Together since 1978, married on 8/24/1985 after Steve finally worked up the nerve, it took him 3 months, to finally ask Sandy to marry Him.
Sandra L. Green Gross Rekitt, 69, was born 08/20/1948. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marguerite Cochran, her first husband Burnice Gross, a brother Kenneth Cochran, and a nephew Vincent O’Connor.

Steven M. Rekitt, 68, was born 12/06/1949. He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Rekitt and Anna Rekitt, brothers Alfred and Norman Rekitt, Richard Walsh and Howard Crisswell.
They are survived by sisters: Denise Cochran, Marjorie O’Connor (Jim), Shirley Crisswell, Dorothy Walsh, Theresa Wisor (Gary), Audrey Cavicchio (Arthur), Martha Haas (Mike), Carol Rekitt, and Darlene Rekitt.
Brothers: Paul (Janet), George (Judy), Emmett (Rebecca), Edward (Cheryl) and Frank (Peggy).
Sons: Jeffrey Gross (Amy), and James Gross (Tina)
Grandchildren: Jeremy Gross (Brandi), Matthew Gross (Kristina), Garrett Gross (Sarah), Ashley Prylinski, Allison Prylinski (Bryce), Maddison Gross, Nicholas Gross, Caralee Himes (Justin), Rachel Russell, Lexi Andrews, Rayna Carpenter and Sean Clark.

2 great Grandchildren: Emmett Gross and Katrina Gross, along with several nieces and nephews, and their German Shepard Jessie.

Sandy was employed as a groomer at Pawsability for the last 7 years, usually with Steve right there helping her on the weekends.
Steve was very proud to have served his country in the Marines during Vietnam. Steve was employed for nearly 40 years at Gary Miller Chrysler as body shop Manager.

They loved their family very much and were very proud of them. They made sure everyone knew it. Never to miss giving a hug and a kiss and always saying “Love You”

Steve and Sandy were always together and lived life to the fullest. They loved to ride motorcycles, bowl, watch Nascar, old cars, and just sitting on their deck. Most of all they loved spending time with their family.
Those who knew Steve and Sandy even for a short time knew they were special, always there to help anyone who needed it without hesitation.
Steve was the life of the party making all who knew him smile and laugh. From telling a joke, pushing the reverse button in his brothers car as he was about to take off from a green light while street racing, cutting a smiley face in a pancake and holding it up to his face, he was never afraid to embarrass himself or you if he knew it was funny and would make you laugh.

Sandy was a Cancer survivor for over 35 years. Recently upon meeting a new Dr. at the cancer center, he shook her hand and gave her a hug saying, “Do you realize how lucky you and your family are? The cancer you beat had a 100% mortality rate until you.”
Our great memories will keep them close in our hearts.
They will surely be missed.


Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, PA 16504 on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a funeral service there on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
