Obituary for Rosario Cruz (Cruz)

Rosario Cruz, 89, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Friday June 8, 2018 at her residence. A resident of Erie since 1977 she was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on December 15, 1928 a daughter of the late Florentino and Aloisa Medina Cruz.

Rosario worked at St. Vincent Health Center for several years and was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing dominos and cooking. The most important thing in her life was spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Adrian Cruz; two daughters, Rita Cruz and Ines Negron; one sister, Lydia Gandia; and eight brothers, Joselito, Amilca, Basilides, Ismael, Epifanio, Jesus, Manuel, and Efrain Cruz.

Survivors include three daughters, Carmen Ocasio, Miguelina Arvelo, and Brunilda Alvarez (Miguel), all of Erie; one son, Luis Cruz of Erie; 19 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Thursday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Stephen's Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

We would like to give special thanks to her son-in-law, Miguel Alvarez and his family for their loving care given to Rosario.
