Mary A.  Ignaczak (Hitz)
Mary A. Hitz Ignaczak, 96, formerly of Sunset Blvd., passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at St. Mary's Home East. She was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on December 23, 1919 a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary K. Stahon Hitz.
Mary graduated from Belle Valley Elementary School and Millcreek High School, where she was a member of the girls basketball teams. She was co-owner, along with her husband George, of Duggan's Service and Appliance Company and was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church. She was a life-member of the Erie Maennerchor and Zukor Clubs and enjoyed Duckpin bowling and cooking. She especially loved being with her family.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Ignaczak, Sr.; one daughter, Bonita J. Ignaczak; two brothers, Kenneth and John Hitz; and four sisters, Helen Gathers, Jean Tromans, Terry DeGeorge and Ann Niederriter.
Survivors include two sons, Louis R. Ignaczak and his wife, Peggy of Columbia Station, OH and George A. "Skip" Ignaczak, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Erie; her twin daughters, Jean A. Smolko and her husband, Robert of Solon, OH and Jane Crawford and her husband, Eric of New Castle, PA; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; her special caregiver and friend, Kay Myers of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the prayer service there at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m.. Burial will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Home East for their loving care given to Mary during her time there.
