Sally A. Barker  Infantino
Sally A. Barker Infantino, 58, of Erie, died Tuesday evening October 25, 2011 at UPMC Hamot. Born on February 16, 1953 to the late Ronald Barker, she was a lifelong resident of Erie.

Sally was a graduate of Iroquois High School and Mercyhurst College, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and was the recipient of the Archbishop Gannon Award for graduating with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She earned her Masters Degree at Edinboro University. She taught second grade at Belle Valley Elementary School for 32 years. She was a career-long member of the National Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. She loved athletics, as a fan and a participant.

Sally dedicated her life to her family and friends, and enjoyed hosting endless holidays and parties. Her family and friends will forever remember her boundless courage, grace, and unwavering hope in the face of a five year battle with ovarian cancer. Her family would like to extend sincere appreciation for all of the family and friends who provided support through phone calls, cards, flowers, and visits during her illness. The family also expresses heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the Cleveland Clinic, whose care allowed her to live life to the fullest.

Sally is survived by Jerry Infantino, her husband and best friend of 36 years; her daughter, Jennifer Infantino of Raleigh, NC; her son, Jeremy Infantino of Erie, PA; and her granddaughter and "angel baby," Bella Grace Infantino, also of Erie, PA. She is also survived by two sisters, Kitty Goard and Susan Smock of Erie, PA, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Ronald, the grandmother who raised her, Anna Barker, and her parents-in-law, Angelo and Bertha Infantino.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Road, on Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Saturday morning at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke Catholic Church at 12 p.m. Entombment will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Mausoleum.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Jimmy V Cancer Research Foundation at 106 Towerview Court, Cary, NC 27513, in honor of Sally's embodiment of Jim Valvano's motto – "don't give up; don't ever give up." Contributions may also be made to Perseus House at 1511 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16501.
