Obituary for Stephen J "Steve" Zielonka

Steve J. Zielonka, 93, of Millcreek, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie on July 13, 1925 a son of the late Joseph and Mary Dyszynska Zielonka.

Steve graduated from East High School in 1943 and proudly served his country in the Pacific during World War II as an E/M 3rd Class in the 62nd Naval Coast Battalion. He retired as a supervisor from GTE-Verizon after 38 years of service. He was a lifelong member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and an active member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and a life member of the American Legion Post 771, Slovak National Club, and the Huzar Club. He was a member of Cursillo #106. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time at his camp in Marshburg, PA.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Walczak Zielonka; his second wife, Celia Rankin Zielonka; two sisters, Mary Peterson and Julia Mack; and three brothers, Edward, Ben, and Ray Zielonka.

Survivors include one daughter, Norrie Dunsmore and her husband, Mike, of Millcreek; four grandchildren, Steve, Mike (Lindsey), Drew, and Adam Dunsmore; one stepson, Brad Rankin of Florida; one stepdaughter, Cathy Hill and her husband, Mike, of Harborcreek; three step grandchildren, Caitlin Hill, Aaron Hill (Holly), and Bianca Rankin; one sister, Bernice Zielonka; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at St. Casimir Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Mass there at 11 a.m.. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Great Lakes Hospice for their compassion and loving care given to Steve.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the family which will then be donated to some of Steve's favorite charities.
