Joseph A.  Marschak
Joseph A. Marschak, 89, of Erie, passed away on Monday May 14, 2018 at Bickford Senior Living following a brief illness. He was born in Erie on April 6, 1929 a son of the late Joseph F. and Clara S. Pohl Marschak.

Joseph served in the United States Navy, including 20 years as a Chief Engineer in the Nuclear Submarine Fleet based out of New London, CT. After retiring from the Navy he and Mary returned to Erie to be with their families. He went on to work as a foreman at GE and as a supervisor of the greenhouse at Allburn Florist for 20 years. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, the Huzar Club, and the Polish Falcons. He also belonged to the East Erie Turners, the Fleet Reserve Association, and the Erie Horseshoe Club where he served as Treasurer and earned many pitching awards. He enjoyed gardening, polka music, and polka dances.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Esther Pietrasiewicz and her husband, Casey, and many members of the Urbaniak family.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary C. Urbaniak Marschak; three daughters, Michelle Petri and her husband, Dan, of Erie, Claire Marschak of Rhode Island, and JoAnne Massello and her husband, J. Tracy, of Erie; two grandsons, Max and Wyatt Fisher of Rhode Island; a dear family friend, Robert Fisher of Mentor, OH; two sisters in law, Joan and Rita Urbaniak, both of Erie; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
