Obituary for Nancy Rupp (Lieb)

Nancy Lou Lieb Rupp, 82, of Erie, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday, December 8, 2017 at St. Mary’s Home of Erie. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on January 18, 1935, a daughter of the late Louis and Virginia Soisson Lieb.

Nancy was a Student Account Officer for Mercyhurst College for 23 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and formerly of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she sang in the choir for 35 years. Nancy was a member of the Rosary Society, the Catholic Women’s Union, and recently made her Cursillo.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James E. Rupp, Sr., whom she married on June 4, 1955; her six brothers, John B., James A., William H., Louis J. Jr., Fr. Marianus Lieb, T.O. R., and Fr. Aquinas Lieb, T.O.R.; her sister, Virginia Waring; and her granddaughter, JeAnna Gorniak.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jean Gorniak and her husband Kirk of Erie and Janet Jenkins and her husband Gary of Buffalo, N.Y.; her four sons, Jamie Rupp and his wife Joann, John Rupp and his wife Carla, Joseph Rupp and his wife Michele, and Jerry Rupp and his wife Annette, all of Erie; her two sisters, Susanna Kirsch, of Ebensburg, PA, and Janet Zabrosky and her husband Edward of Loretto, PA; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at St. Mary’s Home of Erie and the LECOM Health VNA Hospice for all their love and care they gave Nancy.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and are invited to prayer services there on Tuesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be private in Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery.
