Richard Joseph Strohmeyer
December 12, 1930 – August 28, 2017
Richard J. Strohmeyer of Erie, PA and Lakeland, FL passed peacefully at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Lakeland FL. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Beatrice Strohmeyer, infant brother Robert and grandson Timothy Strohmeyer.
Survived by Nancy Seelinger Strohmeyer (wife), son Rick Strohmeyer (Jane) and daughters Stacy Jaskiewicz (Jay) and Jo Hair (Steven). Also survived by his grandchildren and step-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as “Papo”; Tamra James (Dan) and great grandson Knox, Tyler Strohmeyer (Danielle), Jared Jaskiewicz, Jeff Jaskiewicz (Casey)and great granddaughters Sophia and Shea), Jenna Plemons (Trent) , Jessica Stetson (Travis), Molly Frazier (Brandon) and Jeffrey Bonavita. Further survived by sisters Jean Miller (Andy) and Carol Yewhuck (Walter).
Richard served in the Korean War overseas as a frontline communications Staff Sargent with the 7th Infantry. He worked with his father for many years in the service station industry until 1964 when he became employed by United Refining Co. of PA as Vice President of Rochester Gasoline Corp. He returned to Erie in 1977 as District Manager at United Refining. After retirement, Richard and Nancy owned and operated Wesleyville Coin Laundry until Richard began work at Bayport Heating & Cooling, Inc. owned by his daughter Jo and son-in-law Steve.
Richard enjoyed square dancing with his beloved wife Nancy as members of the Concord Steppers and Dancing Flames serving as officers for both organizations. In later years he became an accomplished cross stitch artist completing over 50 projects he joyfully shared with family and friends. As a graduate of St. Joe’s grade school and Cathedral Prep Class of 1948, he much enjoyed the continued fellowship of his classmates during their monthly alumni luncheons. Richard’s most cherished moments were those spent with his family and spending winters in Florida.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Bread of Life Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
