Obituary for Doris "Elthea" Gilmore (Jones)

Doris “Elthea” Jones Gilmore, age 100, of Erie, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Erie on May 21, 1917, the daughter of the late Fred and Wealthie Wilcox Jones.

Ethlea was a graduate of Erie Business Center. She was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir, Junior Aid, and other church activities. While growing up in Cambridge Springs, Ethlea worked at the Riverside Hotel. She enjoyed traveling, needlework, sewing, and going to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse and the Red Lobster. Elthea loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Franklin Gilmore; her son in infancy, Marvin Frank Gilmore; her four brothers, Olaf, Toral, Merrel, and Meredith Jones; and her son-in-law, Kent Pattison.

Survivors include her daughter Judy Pattison of Erie; her two sons, Thomas Gilmore and his wife Penny of Canadohta Lake, PA an Ronald Gilmore and his wife Linnea of Erie; five grandchildren, Amy Hopson and her husband Scott, Thomas Gilmore and his wife Abby, Ryan Gilmore and his wife Stefanie, Jordan Gilmore, and Lauren Gilmore; seven great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Alex Hopson, Michael, Elizabeth, Kate, Rachel, and Grace Gilmore; and her brother, Arden Jones. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. are invited to services at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church the following morning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Wattsburg Cemetery.
