Obituary for Ralph W. Shepard

Ralph W. Shepard, 96, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Elmwood Gardens. He was born in Erie on January 22, 1921 a son of the late George and Harriet Eichler Shepard.

Ralph proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and earned his Bachelors of Science in Education from Edinboro College. He was an Algebra teacher for 30 years at Fairview High School and attended Bethel Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School in his youth. He enjoyed ice skating at Highbox Pond, golfing, bowling, painting, and gardening.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Wakeley and her husband, Dean.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Norma L. McMann Shepard; his brothers and sisters in law; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Burial and services will be private in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 1781 W. 38th St., Erie, 16508.
