Julia "Esther" Lewis Koper, 89, formerly of East 33rd St., passed away on Friday May 26, 2017 at St. Mary's Home East following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Erie on March 22, 1928 a daughter of the late George V. and Elizabeth K. Giselle Lewis.

Esther graduated from East High School and attended Villa Maria College. She worked, for many years, at Carlisle's (formerly Trask's) and was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed sports, especially baseball, crossword puzzles, cards, and jigsaw puzzles.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Koper; one daughter, in infancy, Mary Jane Koper; one grandson, Michael A. Wisniewski; one sister, Elizabeth E. Waldemarson; and four brothers, George W., Henry C., Joseph D., and Harold F. Lewis.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Lutterbaugh and her husband, Joseph, Kathy Soboleski and her husband, Joe, and Judith Wisniewski and her husband, Richard, all of Erie; one son, Jim Koper and his wife, Jeanette, of Wattsburg; eight grandchildren, Brianna and Ryan Koper, Julie Nicholson, Debbie Balogh (Tim), Christine Mysnyk, Chris Lutterbaugh (Amber), Kirk Lutterbaugh, and Lisa Bradley (Brien); nine great grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda, Josh, Brooke, Megan, Jake, Addison, Kaitlyn, and Isabella; three great, great grandsons, Aiden, Caleb, and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Regional Cancer Center, 2500 W. 12th St., Erie, 16505 or Regional Home Health and Hospice, 2564 Village Common Dr., Erie, Pa., 16506.
