Obituary for Irma L. VanTassel (Ziegler)
Irma L. Ziegler VanTassel, 93, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Manchester Commons. She was born in Erie on May 8, 1924, a daughter of the late John and Hilda Zimmerman Ziegler.
Irma graduated from Academy High School and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star and was a life member of the Siebenbuerger Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. VanTassel; two sisters, Ella Keim and Eleanor Baptist; and two brothers, John and Oscar Ziegler.
Survivors include two sons, Richard VanTassel and his wife, Patricia, and James VanTassel and his wife, Kathleen, all of Erie; six grandchildren, Emily VanTassel, Jill Revell (Scott), Leslie Schmidt (Dennis), John VanTassel (Nicole), Stephanie States (Steven), and Craig VanTassel; five great grandchildren, Jane and Tess Revell, Lyla VanTassel, Hadlee States, and Nora Schmidt; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial were private in Erie Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, 16505.
