William B. Giles, 87, of Millcreek, passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Chattaroy, WV on August 21, 1929 a son of the late William T. and Annie Lou Cook Giles.
William graduated from Chattaroy High School and served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Following World War II he was stationed in Japan with the occupying force. He worked as a fabricator at Erie Strayer for 29 years and was a longtime, active member of Bethel Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was involved in the construction of the church. Faith and family were very important to William. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa. He enjoyed archery hunting with his kids, gardening, and trout fishing.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Randall D. Giles and two sisters, Mary Gibbs and Gloria Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Politino Giles; two sons, Michael Giles and his wife, Lidia, of Edinboro and Terry Giles and his wife, Cheryl, of Erie; one brother, Roger D. Giles of Erie; two sisters, Florine Crawford of Virginia Beach, VA and Tabby Bonito and her husband, Anthony, of Port Huron, MI; five grandchildren, Bethany Casson, Kelly Giles, Virginia Giles, William Giles, and Amy Murdock; four great grandchildren, Eli Robert Giles, Ellie Rose Murdock, Easton Michael Giles, and Rowen Jacob Murdock; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services at Bethel Baptist Church on Saturday at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
