Obituary for Florence J. Lackovic (Nietupski)

Florence J. Lackovic (Nietupski)
Florence Joan (Nietupski) Lackovic, age 88, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017. She was born on June 9, 1928 to the late Victor and Frances (Bronakowski) Nietupski. She attended Holy Trinity Grade School, St. Benedict Academy and Academy High. She was on numerous class reunion committees throughout the years and remained friends with many former classmates. On May 29, 1947, she married the love of her life, Edward A. Lackovic who survives. They would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this year.

Florence was hard working, energetic, and loved entertaining friends and family. You could never leave her house without eating something! She also loved shopping and was always meticulously dressed. Florence and Ed did everything together. They travelled extensively to Europe, Medjugorje, Hawaii, Jamaica, Cancun, Bahamas, and throughout the United States. Besides travelling, they loved to go to polka dances, listen to music, play pinochle, golf, square dancing and casinos. In the late 1950's they co-owned "The Frosty Cup" ice cream stand. Florence retired from GE after 25 years of service. She didn't completely retire though as she volunteered at St. Vincent Hospital and at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel as a teacher aide and office assistant. She loved reading to the first graders. Ed and Florence were founding members of Mt. Carmel Parish where Florence was involved in the Ladies' Guild, Senior Choir, and the Bereavement Committee.

In 1994, Florence and Ed moved to the warm weather of Sun City, Arizona. They made many more friends there and enjoyed visits from family and friends from Erie. They would always come back to Erie in July for family reunions and to visit everyone back home. While in Arizona, Florence joined a "Stitchers" group who turned donated material into clothes or even doll clothes for the local orphanage. They always had projects to work on including a yearly craft fair. After 20 years in Arizona, Florence and Ed moved back to Erie in 2015.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia Janda (2013) and her husband Thomas; her eldest sister Mary Balczon;her five brothers, Stanley, Alex, Edward, Gus, and Ray Nietupski and their spouses.

Florence was very proud of her family. Along with her husband Edward, she is survived by a son, Thomas Lachkovich of Ft. Collins, CO; a daughter, Susan (Robert) Koprowski of Erie; a sister, Joann (Michael) Lepkowski of Scottsdale, AZ; her grandchildren Brian (Michele) Lackovic of Jupiter, FL, Jennifer (Steve) Woods of St. Augustine, FL, Tammy Janda (Norman) and Kimberly Janda, and Renee (Logan) Gordon, all of Erie; her great-grandchildren, Anna, Austin, Ella, Brittany and Matthew and great-great grandchild, Luna. Additionally survived by former daughter in law, Agnes Austin-Guyer of Lake Worth, FL with whom she remained close and step-grandchildren Kelly, Tony (April) Koprowski and their children, Joe, Matt, and Toby. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
