Obituary for Laura G. Konen (Giddings)

Laura "Vernetta" Giddings Hedderick Konen, 89, of Erie, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday March 21, 2017. She was born in Erie on April 23, 1927 a daughter of the late Roland O. and Viola Brine Giddings.

Vernetta originally worked with the Erie Co. Geriatric Center for 10 years and most recently worked as a nurse's aide with Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center for 10 years before retiring in 1987. She was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she belonged to the Lydia Circle and was Missions Chairperson. She was a current member of Triumphant Life Church and a two-time past president of the Belle Valley Fireman's Auxiliary. She enjoyed volunteering with VNA Hospice, camping, and was an avid fisherwoman.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leo A. Hedderick; her second husband, George C. Konen; one daughter, Pency Bliel Schuroloff; one brother, David Giddings; and three sisters, Pauline Allen, Edna LaBarron, and Jeannette Hardy.

Survivors include six daughters, Louise Hull (Jack) of Albion, Rose Daley (Clinton) of Erie, Carol Trudeau of Erie, Cynthia Lavery (Raymond) of Erie, Christine Barse (Claude) of Morristown, NY, and Cathleen Laskowski of Erie; two sons, Donald Hedderick (Linda) of Palmyra, NY and Kenneth Hedderick of Erie; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, great, great, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Triumphant Life Church, 5651 Perry Hwy., Erie, 16509.
