Gilbert V. Erickson, 90, of Union City, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' & Sailors' Home. He was born in Platea, Pa, on October 11, 1926 the son of the late Oscar E. and Edith McDonald Erickson.

“My friends call me Gil”, he was known to say. Gil served in the United States Air Force during WWII as an airplane mechanic. After the war he worked for many years as a self-employed carpenter retiring in 1984. He was a member of the V.F.W Post 3390 and a past member of the Girard American Legion Post 494. He enjoyed hunting and considered his work as “his hobby”.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Martin C. Erickson; his two sisters, Winnie Smith and Lillian McIntyre; and his brother Carl Erickson.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lois Porter Erickson; his six children, Allen Erickson, Harold Erickson, Linda Shields, Donald Erickson and his wife Janelise, Diane Best and her husband John, and Norma Bleasby and her husband Tom; his sister, Lenore Potter; his three brothers, Jess Erickson, Edward Erickson, and Larry Erickson and his wife Wanda; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, Pa 16504 on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the future at Erie County Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
