Obituary for Richard D. Wuenschel

Richard D.  Wuenschel
Richard D. Wuenschel, 94, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 13, 2016 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie at 8:00 pm on November 27, 1922 to the late George A. and Ella W. (Lyons) Wuenschel.

After graduating from Academy High School, Richard served in the US Army as a radio operator in the Southern Pacific during World War II where he was awarded a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. Richard was employed as a time keeper in the maintenance department of the Erie City School District for 25 years. For several years he was a well known and respected roller skating instructor in Erie. Richard also participated in roller skating competitions in the tri-state area winning many awards and recognitions.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters Marie W. Bennett and Ruth L. Rohler and three brothers George M., Robert F. and John W. Wuenschel. He is survived by one sister-in-law Donna Wuenschel and many nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.. Burial was private in Trinity Cemetery.
