Richard E. "Dick"  Ferguson
Richard E. “Dick” Ferguson, 80, of Erie, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at his residence, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Oil City, PA, on January 15, 1936 the son of the late Edward A. Ferguson and Grace A. Blauser Ferguson King.
Dick served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a true patriot and so very proud to be an American. He was a barber for many years working at Bob’s Barber Shop and in recent years at Dick West Barber Shop. He was also a machinist, working for many years at GE. Dick was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers Fan, watching the games with family and friends was among his favorite things. He was an avid golfer and loved to teach golfing skills to everyone. Playing horseshoes was another of his favorite activities, even painting the stakes fluorescent colors so he could still play after he lost most of his vision. He was a talented wood worker, building many things throughout the years. Dick never met a stranger; he loved talking to people and when he met someone new they walked away feeling like they made a friend. He will be remembered by everyone who knew him as a truly Great Guy.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his two sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Marlene “Micki” Snow Ferguson; his son Rick Ferguson and his wife Sonya, of Mercer, Pa; his daughter, Paula Krawczyk and her husband Bill, of Erie; his pride and joy are his four grandchildren, David Ferguson, of Grove City, Billy Krawczyk (Krystal), of Erie, Phillip Ferguson (Melanie), of Sharon, and Alysson Brigden (Jesse), of Erie; four great-grandchildren, Faith, Gabbi, Camden, and Ava; two sisters, Shirley Holowell and Jeanette Fisher (Bill); his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Dick Kerschner; and his friends who are as close as family, Chris Sharp, Tom, Dan, Becca, and Jaimie; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home, Inc. 5000 Wattsburg Rd. Erie, PA 16504, on Monday from 4 p.m. until the time of service there at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Erie County Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Erie VA Medical Center - 135 E 38th St, Erie, PA 16504 or to Great Lakes Hospice - 1700 Peach St #244, Erie, PA 16501.
