Edward Adelbert Golden, 71, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at UPMC Hamot following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was born in Westfield, NY on May 25, 1945 a son of the late Kenneth and Helen Beers Golden.
Edward served in the United States Army for three years in Germany during the Vietnam War and worked at Marlin Rockwell in Jamestown, NY. He attended Jamestown Community College where he earned an Associate degree in History. He went on to spend several summers in Washington D.C. where he trained to become an ordained minister at American University. He was a United Methodist Pastor for 26 years and served several churches including, East Otto United Methodist Church in East Otto, NY, Pekin United Methodist Church in Pekin, NY, Tri-Church Parish in Pekin, NY, and Edwards Chapel United Methodist Church in Clymer, NY.
He was a very active member of Koinonia of Jamestown, NY and Western New York Koinonia and was a past president of the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) support group of Western New York. He was active in the Kairos prison ministries, was an avid reader, and enjoyed collecting model cars.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Ann Duchaine Golden; his daughter, Judi Ann Golden in infancy; and his aunt, Blanche Golden.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Beverly J. Ester Golden; two sons, Thomas Golden of Albany, NY and Daniel Golden of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Howard Golden and his wife Deborah of Brocton, NY and Kenneth Golden and his wife Carole of Derby, KS; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services there on Monday at 1:30 p.m. officiated by Rev. Gerald Ester. Burial will follow in Wattsburg Cemetery.
