Obituary for Sophie P. Dernar

Sophie P. Dernar, 14, of Wattsburg, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016. She was born in Erie on July 30, 2002 a daughter of Ryan and Janice Miller Dernar.

Sophie attended Wattsburg Elementary and Middle Schools, where she participated in chorus, and was entering her freshman year at Seneca High School. She enjoyed snowboarding and playing basketball, volleyball and softball. She also enjoyed playing trumpet in band and participating in musicals. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal great grandparents, George and Jennie Dernar, and Ronald Meabon; and her great aunt, LouAnn Meabon-Rosati.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her siblings, Kiersten McGowan and Baylee Dernar, both at home; her maternal grandparents, Jim and Bobbie Miller of Corry; her paternal grandparents, Ronald and Dianne Dernar of Union City; her paternal great grandmother, Olive Meabon of Wattsburg; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.

Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.. Funeral services will take place at Seneca High School Auditorium on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be private in Lowville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family in care of the funeral home or to the Wattsburg Area School District Foundation, in memory of Sophie, 10782 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16509.
