Obituary for David M. Nies

David M.  Nies
David M. Nies, 61, of Erie passed away at his residence on Thursday October 29, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Erie on February 10, 1954 a son of the late Edward and Helene Zombeck Nies.
David was a 1972 graduate of Cathedral Prep and went on to work at GE for 39 years as a welder and inspector. He was a member of Erie Christian Fellowship Church and volunteered at the Erie City Mission. He was a self-made chef and enjoyed cooking, riding motorcycles, playing music, and traveling. He was an avid photographer.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, John Nies.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Mary Kay Dzurik Nies; one daughter, Rachel Lackovic and her husband Adam of Erie; one son, Christopher Nies and his wife Katelyn of Seattle, WA; one granddaughter, Adalynn; five sisters, Carol Kania and her husband Victor of Rio Rancho, NM, Jean Holowienko of Erie, Sue Nies of Cleveland, Mary Buckner and her husband Steve of Erie, and Judy Simpson and her husband Don of North East; three brothers, Edward Nies and his wife Charlene of Erie, James Nies of Erie, and Thom Nies and his wife Sharon of Latrobe; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to services there on Monday at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
